Hot water beach (coromandel)The Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula is a very special one because there's a underground river of hot water flowing under the surface.
As you can see in the slide show on the left, you only have to dig a hole on the beach and it will fill up with hot water from the river. Laying in the sun on the beach is already nice but that is even better and especially good when you want to have a bit of relaxing time. |

Rotorua Geothermal wonderlandA quiet seldom spot on earth where the power and heat deep under our feet is so close and almost touchable (but please don't!).
Hot water tubs are bubbling and steeming and when you wait for a few minutes in front of a geysir, a big hot water fountain will come up and sprinkle the ground around. But maybe bring a scarf that you perfumed before. Because of the sulphur (which smells like rotten eggs) the smell there isn't the nicest. |

Lake TaupoAlso close to Rotorua is Lake Taupo. It was created after a huge vulcanic explosion 22,600 years ago as the caldera of the super volcano turned into a lake. It`s area embraces 616km2 and with that it's New Zealand's largest lake.
